NSF Project Description

The Fossil Finders project is an NSF funded grant (NSF, Grant 0733223) directed by Cornell Associate Professor, Dr. Barbara Crawford, with Co-PIs Dr. Robert Ross and Dr. Warren Allmon of the PRI. Graduate student research is being conducted on various aspects of implementation of the Fossil Finders Project, and teacher loan kits are available through the Paleontological Research Institution. This NSF Resources and Tools Project has the following goals:

Goal 1: to create an authentic context to enhance children’s and teachers’ understandings of the nature of science (NOS) and evolutionary concepts.

Goal 2: to motivate children to learn more about science, including culturally and linguistically diverse groups of children.

Goal 3: develop educational materials that help teachers and children understand inquiry.
